How many horses have been euthanized due to injuries since modern track racing came around?

And how many more will be? ... after they are forced into that life.

  1. thats a difficult question to answer, as the racing industry dont tend to make those stats readily available.

    Animal aid and the rspca have done research and come up with a figure of between  300 and 400 horses being raced to death each year in britian alone...so you can imagine what a world wide figure would be.


  2. Tens of thousands- possibly upwards of a million or more, would be my best estimate. Modern tracks have been in existance since the 18th and 19th centuries, so there have probably been far more deaths than the ones which are reported throughout the sport's long history. As for how many more horses will die needlessly so we can have a few minutes of entertainment, the answer is, as the song says, "blowin' in the wind".... at least for now.
