How many hours a day should a 7-8 year old cairn terrier sleep?

it seems like all my dog does is sleep like 20 hours a day is this abnormal behaviour?

20 hours a day is a bit much. Sounds like your dog is bored. Take it to a doggie park, for walks, and to visit friends. Teach it tricks. And if all else fails (and this works for you), get a companion dog.

dogs sleep 10-20 hours a day depending on breed and activity level.  try taking him for a walk.
