  1. Total Route 1478 mi  24 hrs  20 mins

    Acording to expedia

  2. Don't count on Expedia's estimate. It's closer to 30 hours or more. I've done the trip twice. Both times it took us 24 hours to travel between San Diego and Mazatlan - you should factor in gas stops, stops at toll stations, rest breaks, etc... We didn't take many breaks at all. The toll road is totally fine, safe. It's just a super long drive - especially crossing through the Sonora desert. I've heard of people doing it faster, but I was by no means going slow.

From Mazatlan to Sayulita, which is just north of Puerto Vallarta, it was another full day (about eight hours, I think). The road approaching Puerto Vallarta is two-lane and twisting, and you have to pass through some towns, which also slows you down.

When you hit Tijuana, be sure to pick up a Guia Roji - Mexico's road atlas. You can also order one through Amazon. The guide can also tell you how much to expect to pay on the toll roads.

  3. That will depend on the route you take and if you are in a hurry or not.

The west coast does not have the fastest roads and in fact are loaded with winding roads and hairpin turns not to mention potholes and speed bumps.

I have never personally taken that route but thats what everyone says.

If you take the Baja to La Paz and the ferry to Mazatlan you will arrive on day3.

Baja roads are good and fast and around a 24 hour drive.

You will have to process you vehicle in T.J.
