i would like to drive to mexico city but does anyone know how many hours tis would take?

You really should have a compelling reason to drive to Mexico City. It is one of the worst cities to have a car in the world.

There is a non-stop overnight bus (20 hours) that leaves at 9:30pm for as little as $118 each way.

  Aeromexico and Mexicana both have non-stop service to Mexico city from San Antonio.

it's 2 hours from San Antonio to Laredo (which is the  fastest way to get to mexico city), then in Mexico from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City would be about 11 hours aproximately depending on how much traffic you'll find entering the city (you shouldn't enter any big cities like Monterrey or Queretaro because you will loose time, always follow the direct directions to Mexico City) , i will recommend you to start you trip 12:00 so you will get to mexico city  by 2:00 am of the next day.  

On the other hand you can always take a bus to the city, but  in that case you have to be  familiar with mexican public transportations wich is pretty different from american,  and eventhough in the city everybody drives very fast i think you will be able to manage it pretty good.
