  1. My instructor was really helpful and suggested we book just one lesson (2 hours long) to see how I felt about it. When I'd finished the lesson and wanted to continue, she then booked me in for several more, but allowed the first lesson to count in the discounted block of ten hours that she offers, even though I hadn't booked 10 hours straight away. So I would suggest talking to the instructor that you have arranged to have lessons with, to see what they think.

  2. pay as you go! you might be really good and not need so many lessons! Also if  buy in bulk and don't like the teacher your stuck and can't go elsewhere! ring a few schools up and ask for advise!

  3. Nobody (not even you) can guess at how quickly you will learn all that is required AND develope the skills needed (based upon experience) to pass your test.

I would suggest you book just a few lessons to start with which will allow you (and your instructor) to get a feel for your abilities and then you can make a more informed guess at the total lessons needed.

Otherwise you stand to pay out for more lessons than required just to gain discounted fees OR overpay for too few lessons when you clearly needed more.

  4. I would say buy 20, and then see how that goes!

    Gd Luck!!

  5. As many as you can afford. Unless you are super rich that will be the right amount.

  6. 2 hours max!

Don't go buying a block booking unless you know you like the instructor and his/her car FIRST!!

If you give your instructor a few hundred quid and then realise he/she's a complete muppet, stinks of B.O. and the car is really uncomfortable you're a bit screwed!!

Have a trial lesson or two then buy yourself 20 hours or something if you're 100% happy :)

*****EDIT - allegoricalwoman has made a good point - the only thing is, be careful - some instructors are very pushy about booking the next lesson at the end of your very first lesson - and it is a very pressurised situation - especially if you're not happy with your instructor. If you block book you will generally save two or three quid per lesson, so for the sake of  Ã‚£3 i would play it safe and just book ONE lesson and no more - tell the instructor, you want to talk to your partner / parents about finacing the lessons and say you will call him / her - don't be fed not bullpoo about "oooh well I can't guarantee I will be able to fit you in.." well that's THEIR loss then!!

DON'T be pressurised into lessons with someone you don't like - that's why I gave up driving for 6 months when I was 17! And that's why all I enjoy my job so much - cos i know that my pupils WANT to learn with me, as I "left the ball ENTIRELY in their court" when booking further lessons.

Hope this helps anyone else too :)
