I have heard the number estimated at much lower than you might expect.  It was somewhere around 15 billion which shows just how densely populated we are today.  Here is a link which estimates it at 100 billion.

The best demographers estimate that there have been at least 120 billion Homo sapiens born in the past 120,000 years!

One estimate that I have seen put the figure at about 100 billion, as I recall.
