How many humps do you make in a cursive M?

Are ther three or two. We are having a long distance argument. The N has two and the M has three. Right?

The M is supposed to have three, the N two, but I sort of make a tail before beginning the M or the N. I don't write the full 'hump' at the beginning. Really, you can write your letters however you want.
