There's no such thing as an "illegal" immigrant in the U.S.  Everyone who comes here is welcome.  There may be laws against certain types of immigrants, but those laws conflict with the U.S. Constitution and are invalid.

But to get back to your question, there's no magic number of immigrants "needed."  Maybe none or maybe everyone who wants to come here.  (writing from the U.S.)

The U.S.A. became the great nation it is because people came here from all over the world because they loved freedom and wanted to work hard and live free.  What's changed?

I used to believe that illegal immigrants boosted the economy by doing the jobs Americans wouldn't for less money thereby increasing the seller's profits.  Then I learned about the extra costs incurred by the taxpayers.

Illegal immigrants cost the taxpayers multiple ways:

They don't pay taxes, yet use our roads and schools and other government services.  We have to pay for teachers to translate for their kids, and all government documentation now has to be done on multiple languages, increasing the tax burden on the rest of us.

They don't have health insurance yet hospitals are required to give them health care. They pass the costs along to those of us who DO have insurance or the ability to pay. (My last visit to the hospital I demanded an itemized bill and had to ask three times to have some items explained.  Seems they charged me $8 a pop to bring me a small cup of ice to suck on because I couldn't have liquids until after my surgery.)

When they drive without having a license they don't have insurance and when they are involved in a wreck the other person pays and their insurance rates go up to cover the costs the insurance company can't collect from the illegal immigrant.

They increase the demand for gasoline thereby helping to increase the price for the rest of us.

The list goes on and on.

So Negative one is the answer for how many illegal immigrants it takes to boost the American economy.

Actually there are approximately 12 million Mexicans living and working in the USA, legally or not. They have boosted the American economy since the mid 1940's, before the trickle became a tidal wave.
