  1. i would imagine every little bit counts when changing racket size. i went from an oversized racket to a mid sized a while back and found that i was framing the ball alot more, but after a while i was glad i made the change, more power and control with the smaller size.

  2. i used to play with 115 sq in racquet and switched to 102 sq in racquet some months ago. when trying the smaller one, i accidentally hit the ball with the frame many times. it seems like going for a smaller racquet headsize needs more of your focus on the ball. if you're changing from oversize to midplus, consider to get used to a transition headsize, e.g., from 115 to 98, try 105 sq in or so. but if you just change slightly, like 107 to 105, i think it doesn't feel too different.

    hope it helps :)

  3. usually larger face rackets are designed for player with short swing (not fully developed) and follow-through, i.e. 3.5 and below.  These rackets are not only large, they are also light and thick in cross beam profile.  the purpose is to generate power from the racket itself.

while smaller head rackets, say below 100 sq. in. are usually designed for player have decent form and can generate power from their full(er) swings.  the smaller head rackets are better in control because the string bed will not go as deep when impact.

the goal in tennis racket industry has always been "power and control", which usually go separate ways.  But the new technology and materials make rackets not only lighter, more powerful then ever and with decent control.  Now in terms of the "feel" is a total different story.

when a good player chosing a racket, the "feel" becomes very important. it involves the stiffness, the flex point, overall weight and balance point.  it is very personal.

to answer your question - i would say in general, from 105 to 98 is a big change, from 105 to 90 or 89 is drastic.

  4. All other things being equal, you can feel the difference between 2 sq. inches.  A "drastic" change in size is measured in percentages more than square inches.

For example, there is a drastic difference in feel between 90 and 95 inches...almost 6% difference there.  However, you'll feel it less between 110 and 115...4% difference.

IMO, a drastic change in racket head size is 6% of more.
