If I'm the starter and i pitch 2/3 of the first inning with my team winning, then leave the game, will I get the win? Provided that the team held on

  1. At least 5 innings to win a game BUT you can lose the game in the first inning.

  2. Winning pitcher has to work the majority of innings. 2 outs out of 27 is not enough to get you a win. The pitcher who did the majority of the work gets the win.

  3. The STARTING pitcher has to pitch 5 innings, but given the right circumstances any reliever could pitch as little as 1/3 of a inning to get credited for the win.

  4. no you have to pitch a minimum of 5 complete innings to get the win..as a starter anyways.

  5. As stated above is mostly true...but as a middle reliever if the starter leaves after three or four innings he has to pitch at least three innings to get the win (not just the 5th inning).

If the closer loses the lead in the top of the ninth and his team wins the game in the bottom of the ninth then he gets the win.

  6. It's utterly astonishing to me how many people here are answering this question with THE WRONG ANSWER. It's not the "majority of innings" or "who's pitching at the 5th inning."

A pitcher must complete the first five innings to qualify for a win. That's it.

They need to start a new baseball section for people who actually know what they're talking about.

  7. 5

  8. In the Major Leagues to earn the victory the starter must pitch at least 5 innings if the game is 6 or more innings, and leave with his team ahead and his team can not relinquish that lead.

If the game is shortened to 5 innings the starter has to pitch at least 4 innings.

In the All Star game the minimum number of innings is waived and the winning pitcher is generally the pitcher of record when the winning team takes a lead which it maintains to the end of the game.

  9. 5 innings to get a win..

  10. No whoever was pitching after the 5th inning was over gets the win.

  11. dpends 6 is a quality start but you can go5

  12. Starting pitcher has to pitch at least 5 innings. If he pitches 4 2/3 innings, the next pitcher gets the decision. That's not fair but that's it.

  13. No you will not. The starter has to go at least 5innings in a nine inning game, or 4 innings in a 7 inning game. In the event the starter fails to go over half-way, the pitcher who was pitching in the 5th inning of a 9 inning( or longer) game would get the decision. If a 7 inning game, then the pitcher who was in the 4th inning who qualify.
