How many investments are too many??

is there a such things as having too many investments??? i am college student interested in finances and i hear about money market accounts, CDs, IRAs, broad market mutual fund accounts, and i am just wondering should i invest in all of these or just a couple...??

The amount of investments that you have depends on how much capital you have for investing.

Just looking at securities, there are sound money management guidelines all investor/traders should follow.

1- you never invest 100% of your investing capital invested at any one time

2-You never invest 100% of your invested capital into any one given security

3-you should invest approximately no more than 10%-20% of your invested capital in one security

4-You shold never invest all your capital into one industry

To try to allocate your investment depending on your age, income and financial status.

You should have large capital securities, small-medium capital securities; foreign or emerging market securities; metals; and real estate,

Starting out, you just do one at a time, until you build up your investing capital.   You should select one you feel the most comfortable with.

you are young, take some risks and go all into the stockmarket....there is a lot of risk in todays volatile economy...but your not going to get jack in a CD right now...might as well do soem research and gamble a little.

check out some ETF's such as symbol; QQQQ  there are quite a few good ones....goodluck!

no, Just pick 1 or 2 that have a great track record of not less stan 5 year but prefferably 10 years of earnings. Good luck young lady

I agree if you are young you should take a look into the stock market, given that you have extra money that you will need(don't be using your beer money :)).  Like above poster said the key word is diversified, hope you learn about it in your college career as the ideology can be used in life as well.
