  1. Archipelago Nations:

    1. Indonesia

    2. Philippines

    3. Japan

    4. Maldives

    Island Nations:

    1. Taiwan

    2. Sri Lanka

    3. Cyprus

    4. Bahrein

    5. Singapore

    Part of Island:

    1. Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak of Borneo)

    2. Brunei (Borneo)

    3. Timor L'este (Timor)

  2. Good, tough question.  Technically there are no island nations in Asia, as Asia is a continent. :)  However, island nations that are considered (culturally) Asian:

    Bahrain

    Maldives

    Sri Lanka

    Indonesia

    Japan

    Philippines

There are other nations whose inclusion is not so easily defined:

+ Brunei: since it only occupies a tiny part of an island I'm not sure you can categorize it as an "island nation"

+ East Timor - same argument as Brunei, though it can make a stronger case because it occupies about half the island of Timor

+ Cyprus is hard to say; though generally Cyprus (and Cypriots) consider themselves European and tend to identify culturally as European, it's geographically much closer to Asia.

+ Taiwan - though a _de facto_ island nation, it is not considered an independent nation by international standards

    Other nations of note:

+ Malaysia would not count because part of it is on the Asian mainland.

+ Papua New Guinea is typically considered Polynesian/Oceania, not Asian, even though it shares an island with Indonesia.

So depending on what definitions you use, there are 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 island nations in Asia.

  3. like what he said.

  4. JAPAN, TAIWAN, PHILLIPINES, MALAYSIA, INDONESIA, SRI LANKA, SINGAPORE, BRUNEI, BAHRAIN, AND THE MALDIVES.
