The kangaroo population is an average of 2 kangaroos for every 3 people. But it is declining. We do not have kangaroos running down the main street of an average town like many people think. They are in the bush (country side) or zoo's. Many many kangaroos are wild and starting to take over the country. You can see evidence of this in Canberra where one highway is having to kill many off because they cause too many accidents.

About as many as New Zealand has sheep.  But we don't love our kangaroos in the same way that Kiwis love their sheep.

A lot, they live in people's back gardens and we ride them to work and school every day. Beats catching the train.
