parental guidance. I got in a discussion about this with a group of kids between those ages and had my eyes opened a lot. One kid told me

he had stopped listening to his parents before he was 8 because they always seemed to be 'pawning me off ' on another grown up. They set me up in all kinds after school stuff. I guess I felt they didn't have time for me or my sister.

I don't go to them for anything. I saw more of my coaches, my after school tutors, than my parents while I was in middle school. All my mom does is chauffeur me around and I get my license next fall.

One girl told me she was buddy buddy with both her mom and dad. Would rather do things with them than kids her age. She was in an accelerated learning program and perhaps more mature than some of the kids in the group.

Both of those were the extremes of the group.

Where do you fall?

  1. I'm fifteen. Some decisions I can, some decisions I can't. I know I'd never be here today if it weren't for my parents, and neither would my daughter be here. I owe everything to them. I believe that yes, I'm just a kid stuck in an adults body. No, I don't believe I'm ready for the adult world just yet. I still need guidance, just like everyone else.

  2. Well I'm 13 and I think I'm pretty self-dependent. My mother can go out the house and leave me alone whenever she wants as she knows I'm capable of looking after myself. Yet she still looks after me and does stuff with me because she's my mother.

What you said about the girl is interesting, about how she'd rather spend time with her parents than children her own age. I can relate to that; people my own age can be very immature and childish sometimes.

I feel that whilst I would listen to and benefit from the advice of my mum, I am perfectly mature enough to make decisions for myself, and accept the consequences of my actions. If kids don't make mistakes and learn from them now, they will once they've left home but then their parents won't be their to help them.

  3. cuz they don't know what they're doing, why would anyone want to grow up to fast??

  4. as long as i live under my parents roof, they make the decisions

&plus im a kid im going to make mistakes, and i will learn from them.

my parents are teaching me to be independent and im learing alot from them so when its time for me to fend for myself i can survive in the real world.

but as of right now being that im 15

i dont think id stand a chance at the real world

theres still more maturing for me to do

    =D

  5. i'm independent

  6. i definitely feel that way, star for you--this is interesting. i always make my own appointments for the doctor, hair stylist, etc. i make my own dinner many nights, and i have made my own lunch since age six. im not stupid enough to get into drugs and alcohol, that's for sure, and i do well in school. i eat proper foods, i know how to dress well and i don't wear stupid make up or S****y clothes. basically, if i had a job, i could survive perfectly on my own.

  7. I don't think I can make adult decisions... but I would sure love a little bit more freedom.
