The distance between lines of latitude never changes, that's why they are also called parallels. Lines of longitude come together at the poles, so a foot from the pole ALL the lines of longitude would be squished into a circle about 6 feet around.

There are 360 degrees in a circle, right? Earth's diameter is close to 40,000 km so use that to simplify the process. Divide 40,000 by 360 and you get 111.111... km per degree.
