  1. i have no clue! sorry!

  2. Although there were rajahs, nawabs, and princes galore, there was only one kingdom in l947, and that was the kingdom of George Vl of England exercised locally by his Viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten.

  3. India had 562 kingdoms in 1947.

They were all given the choice to either join India / Pakistan or remain independent.  The last choice was not the one the British favoured and the viceroy did his best to persuade and bully as many kings as he could to join either of the twin states.

Kingdoms of Princely India accounted for 40% of the sub-continent's population - no small number ! and hence it was important for the princes and kings to join one of the two states.  Otherwise, it would be a moth eaten India and Pakistan indeed !

Of those that remained free at the end of the partition mess, Kashmir, Hydrabad and Tripura were the biggest.  All three later joined India.
