Question:

How many layers can you have in long hair?

So I was ready for a change with my elbow length straight brown hair. I went to my hairstylist and asked for some layers, thinking I'd get a head full of awesome movement and body.

My hairstylist told me that many long layers on hair this long just ends up looking stringy. But I have SO MUCH thick hair, I just don't think this could be true.

She gave me just barely a couple layers at the bottom. You really can't even tell.

My question is whether you think she is right. Can hair my length support many layers? Should I just find a new hairstylist?

  1. it really just depends on how thick or thin your hair is. if it's long but fine hair then i would not get short layers because it will make the very bottom lenth look stringy. now if you have thick hair then you would be ok with medium layers, because if you were wanting to keep the lenth and you got short layers then it would just look like a mullet. and you definitley don't want that. it's really going to be up to you. if you're not happy with the long layers that she gave you tell her to bring them up an inch or two. ease on up to it slowly before having her take too much off.
