  1. The more important question is, after the 11 months are over, and you go off the diet, how much of the weight will you gain back?  Low calorie and low carb diets don't work long term because you can't stay on them forever.  You have to find something you can do for the rest of your life.

Look, I was 240.  Now I'm about 215.  I have a long way to go.  And I'll admit that some of the diets that promise fast results are very tempting.  Everyone wants fast results!  But you have to do something that will not only help you lose weight for now, but keep it off forever.

Here's what I'm doing: (or, trying to do, because I'm not perfect.)

Every meal should be balanced, with plenty of veggies, whole grains, lean meat and dairy, and fruits.  (You can skip the breakfast vegetable.)  3 snacks a day of vegetables first, then add in additional healthy foods if you're still hungry.  Drink plenty of pure water, at least 8 8-oz cups a day.  Cut out the desserts (this is very hard) or at least don't eat dessert on an empty stomach, only after a complete balanced meal.  Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're satisfied.  Cut out all artificial sweeteners, and all diet foods.

As for exercise, go gentle on yourself.  Walking is great, gentle aerobics are great.  NordicTrak, HealthRider type machines, rowers, exercycles, are all great.  You just need rhythmic, gentle movement.  Shoot for 60 minutes of exercise, but work up to that slowly if you're not used to exercising now.  And exercise should be 6 days a week for optimal results.  Your body needs one day a week to rest.  The minimum for exercise is 20 minutes every other day.

This book was where I got my info, "Lean & Free 2000 Plus," it's available on Amazon.com, and you can get it used, too, for a great price.

    Good luck to you!

  2. it depends on if you are exercising as well. i was on the south beach for about 15 months and lost about 40 lbs, but i cheated a lot and also moved on to phase 3 because i had reached my goal weight, if you stay on phase 2 though for 11 months i would say you could loose up to 60 lbs, make sure to do some type of exercise though
