ONE. not 2, not 3, and certainly not 5. Mine is housed in a 40 gallon breeder. I think that is too small for two.

You can keep two adults in together comfortably. Just make sure they are both female, or female and male. Two males will fight to the death, and I don't think anyone wants to see that..So yeah! two adults can live in a 20 gallon long aquarium together comfortably =]

They love to live by themseleves.

At the very most a trio. I used to keep one male and two females together. Just make sure they are the same size and age and dont keep males with females unless you know how to care for gravid females or incubate eggs. You can keep 3 females, all the same size and age as well. At the first sign of aggression separate them though!
