I saw some answers putting China in second place because they won lesser medal than USA.

That was strange. I don't know about you, but I think China is on top of the table with 51 golds, 21 silvers and 28 bronzes.

I agree that USA has the most medals and if they are to be calculated by points they still topped the table.

But I think we can't deny the fact that 1 gold is more important than number of silver. Winning silver and bronze means you are on 2nd and 3rd. It also means that you lost the 1st place! How can you compare two 2nd places to one 1st place?
