    If you use standard accepted logic, then 1024 Megabytes equals 1GB.

    If you use Hard Drive Manufacturer logic, then 1000 Megabytes equals 1GB.

    Hard drive manufacturers use this as a way to promote drive as more than it actually is.  For example, a 160GB drive actually is about 149GB.
