How many members of a species does it need in order to become classified as endangered?

I know that a species must have very few members in order to become classified as endangered, but does anyone know exactly what the numbers are? Thanks!

One or more. The requirement for being classified as "endangered" is not based on numbers. Rather, it is a species or subspecies or population (usually) that "is in immanent danger of extinction". The numbers vary all over the place, from taxon to taxon. They are usually declining, though.

it depends.  A species could be numerous but be scarce in a local area.  That could do it.

It depends on the animal population average and the animal.For polar bears the population is 20,000 to 25,000 and about 60 percent in Canada.
