I know that a species must have very few members in order to become classified as endangered, but does anyone know exactly what the numbers are? Thanks!

  1. One or more. The requirement for being classified as "endangered" is not based on numbers. Rather, it is a species or subspecies or population (usually) that "is in immanent danger of extinction". The numbers vary all over the place, from taxon to taxon. They are usually declining, though.

  2. it depends.  A species could be numerous but be scarce in a local area.  That could do it.

There is not a set number at which an animal is place on the list however it is based on the decline of the species population.  The following in an outstanding website that provides more information such as types, locations, etc... of endangered animals.  http://www.endangeredspecie.com/

    Great Question!!!

  4. It depends on the animal population average and the animal. For polar bears the population is 20,000 to 25,000 and about 60 percent in Canada.
