How many miles a week do i need to train for the mile?

  1. I run about 25 miles a week to train for the 800, but my teammate runs about 40 to train for the mile. Her PR is 5:35.

    It really depends on what kind of a runner you are.


  2. It varies. Some milers run 25 miles a week some run 80.  In any case, you can only increase mileage so fast (~10% per week) and some people respond better to high mileage and others don't.  In general, there is a big gain going from 0 to 20 miles per week.  There is a second smaller gain going from 20 to 40 and likewise an even smaller gain going from 40 to 60.  There is little benefit for a miler going beyond 75 miles per week.
