I am considering property out of state and the utility hook ups are 1/2 mile into the property from the road. I am trying to figure out how far into an acre that is. I understand that it goes by square miles, but I still can't figure out the math on this. Any help is appreciated.

  1. 1 square mile is 640 acres.

    1 acre is about 240' X 240'.

an acre is about 43,500 square feet.

30 acres can be configured in many different ways.  a very unlikely configuration would be 1 acre wide and 30 acres long.  this would be over a mile long.

30 acres in a square configuration is about  1/4 mile X 1/4 mile.

    edit

    1/4 mile X 1/4 mile = 40 acres.

  2. an acre is measured as a chain x a furlong,

there are 22 yards in a chain and 10 chains in a furlong.

1 mile square is 640 acres

  3. You can't really say because an acre could be a long skinny rectangle, or a square, or something in between.  Or another shape entirely.
