  1. Lol, 4 400M are a mile...Don't think you run a mile in 1 minute lol.

  2. if u cant run  a 400m (1/4 of a mile) then u should never run again thats pathetic

  3. that's once around the track. what you mainly need to do is just prepare  yourself mentally. Tell yourself that you can run it, and you won't get tired and just run it like you do the 200.

  4. when i run a long distance like 5km [ i'm b-player] and get  tired i try to get air with the nose  and let the air with the mouth , it should work... and 400m  are 0.248548476895 miles :d

  5. 400m is about 1/4 mile.

If you can't go all-out the whole thing here's a tip.

Go out 90% in the first 100m.  The race can't be won here but can be lost with a bad start.  "Cruise" for the next 100-150m meaning don't speed up or slow down.  When you're past the 200m mark or a little farther, you can start accelerating and when you hit the 100m mark, go all out.  And try to keep increasing speed even if it feels like you can't, just push.  Run straight through the finish line and do not decelerate until about 2 yards past the finish line.

Also if you're not in the outermost lane, try to catch up and pass the person in the lane right of you.  This helped me a lot since I normally run much longer distances and we start on the same line so I wasn't used to being so separated from everyone.

Think of the race as in sections as listed above.  If you think about the whole thing, you might lose motivation.  And just keep pushing.  At no point should you be slowing down.  Breathe whatever way is comfortable for you.  I usually breathe mostly through my mouth but every few breaths I breathe in my nose like a pattern.

  6. ok first of all a 400m is one lap around the track meaning its 1/4 of a mile.... pace your self and at the 200m mark go for it

  7. 100m = 1 mile =] do the math

  8. it's 1/4 of a mile.  Start out fast, then slow doen a little on the first straightaway.  When you hit the place where you normally start the 200, begin building up.  The last 100m pour everything you have into it.  Run as hard as you can.  No regrets.

Breath like you would for a 200.  Keep your breathing steady.

Control your thoughts and stay posetive.  If you have any thought of not being able to make it, change that into a confidence boosting I can do it!

  9. the 400m is approximately 1/4 of a mile.  Typically this is one time around a track in the first lane.

First, you are going to hear a lot of advice. Run faster, hit the weight room, etc. You will gain a training effect from almost any program. For example, you show up at the beginning of the season having done nothing. You go through a program and you will improve by the end of the season. Most of the time you will improve -- it is called "training effect".

For serious athletes, there are 2 ways to get faster. One is to make your movements more efficient (think of a distance runner who tend to "bounce" when they run and arms sometimes are out of sync). The other is to put more power into the ground (Coach Isaac Newton said for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction).

Efficiency of movement - out of your stance. You are going to explode out of your stance at approximately 45 degrees. In order to do this you are going to have to ensure that you are strong enough. Some exercises that you can do is to lean against a wall at a 45 degree angle . Bring up one of your knees and that ensure that your legs are parallel. This is the position that you will be in out of the blocks. Over the next few steps you will go from 45 degrees to a slight lean forward as you move from accelleration to a max velocity run. Your striking foot in front of you should land approximately 6 inches in front of your body. Many people strike in front of this because they point their toes. You want your feet to be dorsiflexed (i.e. picture an ankle with a good taping). This will ensure that you are "pushing" yourself forward using your glutes, rather than pulling yourself forward using your quads. Remember what Coach Newton said!

Power: explosive power. Full body movements are key. Think of cleans or snatches. Even plyometric jumps are goods. You want to focus on higher weight and lower repetition. You are not going to be doing 10 reps, but rather more like 4-6. Focus on getting your hips and glutes involved (the explosiveness of your hips moving forward is what brings the weight up). This will help with getting your hamstrings involved too. Think about the pelvic tilt of a world class sprinter. They look like the strut everywhere they walk. It is actually because they have strengthened those muscles so much it has tilted their hips.

The 400m is a grueling race.  I was a state finalist when I was in school.  Now I train athletes to get faster.  I wish I knew the above when I was running.  For the quarter, get out of the blocks fast, be efficient in your movements, finish strong.  I used to focus on breaking down the race in manageable parts.  Don't let someone make up the stagger on the turns and try to catch up the stagger on the lanes on my right.  That helped me take my mind off of how my body felt:)

    Hope this helps!

  10. it is 1/4 of a mile.

so it is only once around the track.

just try you hardest and think positive.  you will be fine.
