  1. Around 60 km for 1 degree, and 1 km for 1 second


  2. you got it backwards, but if you take the circumference if the Earth and divide by 360, that will give you the number of miles per degree of latitude. Divide that by 3600 to get each second.

    The longitude lines get closer together at the poles

  3. 1 degrees of LATITUDE is about 60 nautical miles.

    1 minute of latitude is about 1 nautical mile, and

    1 second of latitude is about 31 meters.

    Longitude distances are about the same as for latitude, if you're at the equator.  At the poles, longitude lines come together to zero distance.
