In response to an earlier post, stop with the 100k theories. This is 2008. Cars are made much better than they were before and can easily get upwards of 185,000 to 225, 000 is proper care was taken. Try to find out as much as you can about the history of vehicle. The way the vehcile was treated should b ethe main determining factor of ANY vehicle.

The miles don't matter as much as the condition. Ask the seller how often things like the oil were changed. Take it out for a test drive. If it runs and drives good, then you could buy it. If it runs like garbage, don't buy it. It doesn't matter how durable a car is, if it wasn't taken car of, it won't last long.

years ago the bar was set at 100,000 miles, people thought that things started to wear out around this time.

but today cars are easily making it to 200,000.

cars made by Infiniti are very reliable many were sold with a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty years before anyone offered that.

I heard a joke about a woman and the jist of it was that it wasn't the years on it, the mileage was more important.

well with any car it's not the years or the mileage but how well it's been maintained.

your best bet is to buy a car from 1998 or newer.

you'll find more safety features and spend less money on repairs.

As a general rule I like to stay under 100,000 but that can sometimes be hard to do.  As an american I hate to say this but american made cars never last as long as others.  I would say american made cars do good if they make it 150,000 -200,000 miles while Japanese or German made cars can go 300,000 miles or more.  Just remember the more miles the more wore out the car is.  At a certain point it just becomes cheaper to buy a new or newer car that won't need as many repairs.
