  1. it isn't about miles. it's about diet and calorie burning. to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you take in. this will force your body to burn stored body fat, to replace the non-ingested caloires. it is important that you do not over do exercise, as you will eventually start to burn muscle tissue. also important are the types of calories you take in. read up on nutrition and exercise, to find a balance that will help you acheive your goals. choose options that suit your lifestyle. if you try to make to many radical changes all at once, you'll be less likely to stick with any program..

  2. check out my link, it will tell you how many calories you can burn while cycling, then figure out how many calories you ingest, you must burn more calories that you ingest every day....it would take time as they suggest not losing more than 2 lbs aweek or because it is hard on your body

  3. this depends soley on your level of workout.........for example:  if you hammer out 15 miles at 80% max heart rate you are working harder than if you cruise around for 50 miles.............i suggest that you begin with short high intensity workouts (providing that you are healthy enough) and watch your calorie intake........after all, it is intake -vs- intensity.........if you eat less, you will need to burn less.......................................

  4. For me, I found I couldn't loose weight riding a bike one day per weekend (total of 40 miles). I began significantly loosing weight at about 80 miles per weekend (Saturday and Sunday). I didn't change the amount of food I ate.  I lost 40 pounds, and have kept it off. I now ride my bike to work (40 miles total per day, 4 days a week) plus weekend rides, and my weight is still at the level it was when I just rode 80 miles on the weekends.
