How many miles per gallon?

Marine engines don't go by miles per gallon (there are too many variables that affect the distance you can travel on a gallon of gas - hull shape, water conditions, wind, weight of the boat, number of engines, speed, speed to get onto plane, engine trim etc.) but rather gallons of fuel burned per hour .  A 4 stroke outboard that is in tune will burn about 3 - 6 gallons of fuel per hour at cruising speed.  2 stroke engines will burn slightly more I believe.
