I'm an idiot. I got rowing speeds out of a calculus book. (2mph-4mph).

  1. about 25 mph .oxford and cambridge 30mph

  2. 11 mph for 2k (your looking at the Athens Olympic finals for the single scull).  An 8 man boat will 13.5 mph for 2k.  These guys are cardiovascular monsters.  The biggest engines of any athletes.  But the are big (6 to 6.5  feet tall) and weigh alot,  180 - 240 lbs so the little guys like bikers or runners always beat them on a pound for pound basis.

Fairly easy to go 8 mph for four miles.  Drag varies with velocity squared.  So you only have to put out 50% of the max effort you saw there.

  3. yup he is right i row and that is pretty acurate
