Hi, I'm looking to buy my first car, used. I'm not very knowledgeable about autos, so I have no idea what is a reasonable number of miles for a car that is 8-12 years old.

I'm looking in the $5000 - $8000 range. I would like a sedan, but no Toyotas if possible.

Thanks in advance for good answers!

  1. Well, the average should be arround 15k miles a year. If the car has been takin care of it will last. Changing oil is key to an engines long life. I have had cars that had over 300k miles on them. Still going. The 4.6 V8 or the northstar are the best engines IMO. Keep your eyes on the exhaust to see if its burning oil. You will see blue smoke if it is.

  2. I've put 115,000 on my 2001 car.

  3. Average mileage is based on 12,000 - 15,000 miles per year.
