In all honesty, I only just decided to do cross country.

There are only about two weeks until it starts, so how far should i run daily just to get in the groove of things?

I am not too good at pacing.

Most meets are 3 miles, but practices are generally longer, right?

I ran the 1600 before, but not cross country.

Is two miles a day enough?

  1. Yeah, my friends and I ran about 1.6 miles per day during the summer. Today was the first practice and we had to run 5 miles and I did it without stopping. 2 miles is good practice for practice take a couple days off during the week too.

  2. no...

you should run about 5 or 6 miles a day to be an awesome runner...this would be to build endurance...then if your school has practices to do different things to do like 400s and stuff...

  3. My coach had our varsity athletes run 500 miles over the summer and 400 for the JV

I said "See you at track!"

He's a good coach, I would recommend somewhere in there. Stretch well and run on grass :)

  4. You need to start at 2mi per day and work your way up to around 5 or 6 per day, however many miles you can run between 7:00 and 8:00 per mile. Six days a week.

  5. for now but like one week before xc run 3-4 miles a day because they wont just start u off at 5 miles they calculate ur mile time and decide how far you run by 1 month in to practice it will be smooth sailing

  6. No thats not nearly enough. First off all why would you run less then what the actual race is. The race is 3 at the hardest pace you can go and you want to train 2 miles a day a comfortable pace, its just not gonna work. Start out with 2 miles a day for the 1st couple or day(just because your a new runner). Get used to that and then startpicking it up. I am on the Sophmore team at my school and we do 12-14 miles as are long runs and 5-6 on our short days with other things like tempos and hills thrown in. Just keep ramping up your milage and you'll get better. Good Luck.
