Hello, I am planning to be a cop one day. My plan is to become a member of the military police and through whatever branch I enlist into, get a degree in something that will help (any reccomendations). My question is how many years does it take for you to have a good standing and chance on becoming a police officer. Im wondering for this from the navy and army point of views. A police officer once told me it takes 3-4 years in the army to overwave the college req's and 2 years in the navy. So Im just wondering if this is correct. I would like to be a police officer as soon as I possibly can, and believe this is the best and fastest way to garuntee my chances.

  3. if you go navy, go MA. here in texas, you serve your 4 years and then you apply for the academy. having military experience does help you, but you will not just be "given" a job.

my friends hubby did this after his 4 years. just call your local police dept and ask them their requirements.

you could also try navy EOD, now that will open a ton of doors once you serve your required time in the navy.

  4. Each agency is different. Many Federal agencies not only recognize military service in lieu of college hours it waives the maximum age and gives veteran preference in hiring. The service separation status must be honorable. Many state and local agencies accept military service as well. Tx DPS(state troopers) waive the college requirement with 3 years or a combination of college and service time. Good luck.
