  1. Is the patient under the age of 12?

  2. 4ml q 8hrs.  I had the same problem with my 2 month old daughters meds. same meds, same mg, same ratio

  3. Amoxicillin is also available in 200mg/5ml suspension. Make your life easier and get those ones instead ( after talking to the doctor whom has prescript the amoxicillin ). To my believe, You have bought just the wrong strength or the pharmacy has prepared the wrong package. Should You get the 200mg/5ml then each dose is suppose to be of 5ml given 3 times a day making sure it's 8 hours apart.

It is also possible that when you call the doctor. He/she  might not find it not necessary for the medication to be replaced with the 200mg/5ml. Then in that case, he/she will tell You either to give the child 5ml doses 2 times a day 12 hours apart or 3 times a day 8 hours apart.

  4. If the patient weighs 44 pounds, that is 20 kg

    (1 kg=2.2 lbs, so divide 44 by 2.2=20 kg)

30mg per kg, would mean multiply the number of kg the patient weighs by 30. So:

20x30mg=600mg per day, divided every 8 hours means 3 doses per day, so 600mg/3=200mg per dose

    250mg/5ml=50mg/ml

Therefore, the patient would receive 4ml every 8 hours.
