  1. About 5 would be a good amount.  You have to allow for the fact that unless they are all the same s*x you will soon have fry too.

It is not true that bottom feeders, snails or algae eaters clean up your tank as mentioned before me.  They eat left over food and algae.  There is no fish that eats p**p and they all create more of their own.  You still have to do regular maintenance on your tank to remove waste.

  2. You could probably get up to 6 in total with them in a 3-1 female to male ratio. In addition you could have a cleaner fish of some sort to help with the detrius. test water weekly and do 15% weekly water changes using a gravel filter and you might be able to get away with 8.

  3. oNE INCH OF FISH FOR EVERY GALLON

  4. It depends on who you ask....I personally think you could have about 12-15 mollies and some bottom fish such as 3 oto's or cory cats or even 3 kubotai loaches. That being said this answer also depends on...do you have good filtration? I would get something rated for a 30 or 40 gallon tank. Are you willing to put the work into testing your water a couple times a week and doing water changes as needed. If the answer is no to the above then I would go with only 8-10 mollies and thats it. So it is kind of up to the amount of work you want to put in to it.

Edit: If I am the one being refered too...I never said bottom feeders eat p**p!!! Hello, I think anyone who knows anything knows that. I am simply referring to fish that inhabit the bottom of the aquarium. I believe you can stock a little heavier if you have fish that inhabit different levels. As I said before it also depends on how willing you are to keep up on water changes and testing. I don't believe in any stocking rules per say...As long as your not trying to put huge fish in too small of a tank, I believe your water quality will tell you when you are overstocked.

  5. You can put between 10-14 mollies in a 20 gallon freshwater tank. With any more than that, Ammonia levels will soar as well as nitrate and nitrite. Also make sure you have a power or canister (not a sponge or corner) filter and an aerator, tropical fish flakes, TetraAlgae (or other Spirulina-fortified food,) a gravel vacuum (for cleaning the tank, by exchanging no more than 30% of the water,) Aquarium Salt (yes for freshwater too!,) AmQuel, NovAqua, Stress Zyme, Algae Remover (optional,) QuIck Cure (Just in case,) and any other product or item recommend by a pet store employee. Also keep in mind to not overfeed. This is bad and can even be unsafe when uneaten food rots, causing bacterial growth to flourish. Plants are recommend. Also, depending on the strain of mollies, they may like other algae wafers as food. Mollies often eat algae, too, so since you will have between 10-14 in one tank, a plecostomus may not be needed

    Good Luck!

  6. The rule is 1 fish per cubic inch in your tank.

Also this site will calculate it for you depending on your tank:

  7. I would say (comfortably) 4-6 more mollies in there. If you have MORE than 4, consider getting a Mystery snail to help you with the bio-load.

If you have more questions, post them in the "Additional details" and I'll get back to you.
