I think it is 6 months depends on which nationality you are.

HOWEVER  .....beleive it or not, my neighbours's mother came over to Spain about two years ago, when she got to the UK airport, she was told at the control her passport was almost a year out of date!!! but they let her travel, she was in her last 70's travelling with her husband, they told her to get it sorted as soon as she came home, there is also a PS to this, she had also been travelling with it for all the duration of the passport without it being signed...................so want to try your luck!!!???

its six months i   encountered  this  problem  last year when   i only had  3 months  left on mine  and i had to  fast track me  and  the  childrens  passports  it   cost  quite  a  bit of  money though but it  was  worth it in the  end    !!

It doesn't matter WHERE you are going, if you have less than 6 months left on your passport when you leave, it is not recommended to go.  Just go ahead and get the new one, you're going to use it, anyway, aren't you?

If your passport is issued in an EU country then you need 24 hours left when you depart to return to the UK.  Allows for diversions/delays.

If not the it's 6 months
