  1. Independent Countries :

    Bolivia

    Brazil

    Chile

    Colombia

    Costa Rica

    Cuba

    Dominican Rep.

    Ecuador

      Guatemala

    Haiti

    Honduras

    Mexico

    Nicaragua

    Panama

    Netherlands dependencies:

    United States dependencies:

    US Virgin Islands

    Puerto Rico

In addition, some might add Belize, the Falkland Islands, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname to this list, but they are not culturally or linguistically Latin American — although much of Belize's population is. They maintain economic ties with nearby countries, and are grouped by the United Nations in the predominantly Latin American region (South). However, all except Suriname are also the objects of long-standing territorial claims by their Latin American neighbors.

    To Eduardo 75:

  3. Latin America is technically considered all the countries below the US, that means starting in Mexico and having all the countries in Central America, Caribbean and Antilles and South American. There are 28 in total.

The English word Latino (Latina is the feminine form) derives from the Spanish word latinoamericano (the Portuguese word is latino-americano) and most often refers to inhabitants of Latin America, and their descendents living outside of Latin America. Its usual connotation is Ibero-American or Spanish American; Francophone Canadians are not normally referred to as Latino, even though they speak a Romance language.

The concept of "Latin America" was coined by the French in the 1800s as a means of legitimizing French influence over the Spanish-speaking countries of the Americas; compare Latin Europe. The term emphasized a common culture and history of the Latin-speaking peoples, as opposed to the Germanic language-speaking countries of "Anglo-America".
