It is a secret. All it takes is one launch from either side and then it doesn't matter how many, what does matter is WHERE. I think we better keep our wars conventional. That way we kill people rather destroy the earth and all it's people.

during the cold war period they had enough to wipe out every square inch of the world 8 times over. this was called (MAD) Mutually Assured Destruction. but after the fall of the soviet union both have been dismantling their nukes. now its hard to say how many nukes they have.

The better question is, "Do the ballistic missiles each country have actually work?"

I have worked with a former ballistic missile submarine commanding officer and if his sub was half as squared away as he is, those missile worked perfectly.

This is why Russia is so upset about missile defense. They don't have that capability.
