Here's an interesting read from Christina Hoff Summers:

excerpt:

"Gender feminism thrives on the myth that American women are the oppressed "second s*x." No matter how much evidence you adduce against this thesis (e.g. women live longer than men; they are more likely to go to college; they have far more choices on how to live their lives) the gender feminist never changes her mind. The education scholar Diane Ravitch was amazed to find that feminists still claim that our colleges and universities are "failing at fairness" to females--even though women are approaching 60 percent of college enrollments. She asked a good question: "When will it be fair? When women are 60 percent, or 75 percent of college enrollments? Perhaps it will be fair when there are no men at all."

  1. To address this specific issue:  more women are applying to college than men these days, and more boys are dropping out of high school and college than girls.

The fact that women live longer has no relationship whatsoever to whether they have been discriminated against in their lifetimes.

  2. That's it!  It'll be "fair" when there are no men at all.  That is the true feminist ideal.

Though.  Anyone who uses the term "gender feminist" can't be too bright.  There is only one kind of feminist.

Michelle brings up a good point.  Though, the only reason it's true is because educated labor is becoming overabundant.

Jobs like garbage man, construction contractor, and anything that takes brow sweat are things that a man would gladly do for money but not a woman.

  3. Most of them, as the academic world regrettably is saturated with leftists.

  4. All of them, well I suppose women were denied the right to vote, but suffragettes != feminists.

  5. because feminists enjoy feeling aggrieved, and they will always find something to be aggrieved about.  Even if women made up 100% of college students, they'd still find something to complain about, like the fact that women 'need' to go to college to get a good job, and men don't (first I've heard of it).

  6. Feminism isnt keeping boys out of college.

10x more females apply for college then males.

truth is an education is the only way a woman can prepare her to get a decent job and a good life.   Men can skip college and still have plenty of options.

"Had she been a male applicant, there would have been little, if any, hesitation to admit. The reality is that because young men are rarer, they're more valued applicants. Today, two-thirds of colleges and universities report that they get more female than male applicants, and more than 56 percent of undergraduates nationwide are women. Demographers predict that by 2009, only 42 percent of all baccalaureate degrees awarded in the United States will be given to men."

  7. As the poster above pointed out, women have much fewer options if they don't go to college. They will often find themselves stuck in dead-end office or minimum wage jobs while men can still get relatively high paying jobs even if they don't attend college.

  8. Michelle: Huh? What options do i have other than college for a good future, especially ones that women can't do.

Even jobs like firefigher and cop need college education.

  9. Search hard enough for any conspiracy and you'll find it.  And boy, are you searching.
