  1. Quite frankly, as compared to corporate welfare, I doubt its nearly as much over the course of a given year.  Cash payments were drastically reduced between 1996 to 2006 due to changes in the eligibility requirements.  However, pushing unskilled and generally less educated people from the welfare rolls greatly increased costs for other assistance programs like housing subsidies and food stamps.  Politicians say this was expected and is preferrable because former welfare recipients are now on the "employment ladder".  Of course, most are in very low wage jobs and will continue to need significant assistance for many years.

After researching it a bit, I couldn't find actual figures for the costs of TANF, Medicaid and the other support programs.

  2. 15% max.

16.5 Billion appropriated and the states are required to spend less than 15% on overhead...my guess is they spend 14.999%...Of course that is twice as good as private businesses. That would only cover CEO and top brass in bonuses if it were run by a corporation.

$16 and a half billion a year....That is just welfare for children and families. (1 and 1/2 billion has to be maintained for contingency funds by a matching program with the States. Then there is housing HUD which is a mere shadow of itself formerly. It seems to be subsidizing condos (private marketization or some such malarkey)

The answer was 15% max on overhead...sorry for the extra stuff!! I was just looking through the US 2007 Budget and I am getting STEAMED!!!
