  1. I am a peer educator with my school, I work with Kids at an afterschool program, I serve food to the elderly and underprivledged and I'm about to start tutoring kids at a local church. I do this because I like to help in different ways.

  2. i do in fact today i am going after work to volunteer at a fishing tourney for big brothers big sisters

  3. I volunteer with care in the comunity for oaps. I love old people and feel so sorry for them when they have had tough lives and then have to rely on others to take them to the bathroom and so on. I adore doing it even tho its not for the faint hearted. I think "how would i like someone to treat my granny". It makes it easier. xxxxx

  4. Currently, I'm the volunteer co-moderator of the "Volunteers and Technology" online forum for TechSoup.org, the volunteer manager for the Aid Workers Network (www.aidworkers.net), and a peer-to-peer career counselor volunteer (online) for students interested in careers in international development work, through Open University.

Over the years, I've been an advisory board member for various organizations (helping with management and board governance issues), an onsite volunteer  in Austin, Texas for Knowbility and its Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR), www.knowbility.org, an onsite volunteer with HerDomain.org at their information booth at SXSW and various events (also in Austin, Texas), a judging panelist for the Governor's Volunteer Awards (Texas), a judge for the National Volunteer Awards by Women in Community Service (WICS), an onsite volunteer helping with various tasks for the Texas Freedom Network, the Texas Abortion Rights Action League (TARAL), and the California Abortion Rights Action League.

As a teen, 4 million years ago, I volunteered with the local hospice in my home town, and did two stints as a volunteer in the local hospital (back when they were called "candy stripers").

Some of my volunteer activities were undertaken simply because someone asked me , and I liked the idea of being associated with the particular organization or activity. Many were because I am passionate about the cause of a particular organization.

  5. I volunteer as a breastfeeding support advisor, an antenatal peer support advisor and I'm hoping to get some time on the delivery suite at my local hospital.

I want to be a midwife so want to experience as much as I can over the neat year before I (hopefully) start training.

  6. i have 5  f.a.s.d. foster kids,why cuz there kids

  7. I minister to homeless and poor people. There are so many them walking around where I work. It's very sad. Back in the early 80's when the AIDS epidemic came home I got involved. I had a lot of g*y people I knew, some I didn't know. I also knew that it was impossible for just g*y people to get AIDS. Heterosexuals have anal s*x whether they like to admit it or not! We got the g*y community together, met at Jack's Saloon one Sunday and voted on a board of directors for the Miss. g*y Alliance. I was nominated! I ended up as a co-chairperson for the state organization. Met many, many people ... they've been gone for a long time! We educated nurse's in a hospital when our friends were dying. We were on TV. We turned in a chaplain at the Baptist hospital for refusing to take our friend's profession of faith! Pissed us off! We had hands-on contact when no one else would. Those were the best days of my life!! You have no idea how much I learned through these people. I lost a lot of friends back then. I miss them! This let me know how much the g*y community loved me ... I got more votes than the g**s did! The only hetero on the board of directors! ha ....

  8. I work for a voluntary group (charity) and our volunteers are just amazing.  They range in age from 17 to 85 years old.  We could not do our work without them.  I have done lots of voluntary work in my time.  However, I work full-time, and it is hard to fit in.  When I retire, I know that i will dedicate a lot of my leisure time to volunteering.  It is the bedrock of support for vulnerable people.

  9. I volunteer at the local youth club on a monday night because its held at my childrens school - and we have some wicked nights out with the rest of the volunteers.

  10. I volunteer in a psychiatric hospital.

I sit with the patients for a couple of hours, talk to them, sometimes, if they want we'll play a bored game, or just watch something on telly.

I do it because, my Grandad was in a psychiatric hospital a couple of years ago, I was too young to help him, but there was volunteers there when I used to go and visit him.

I decided I didn't want a career in that department, but I would like to help out, and make the patients feel more safe and comfortable, just like some lovely people did when my Grandad was in one.

It also makes me feel good, that instead of going to the pub and wasting money, I'm helping out people less fortunate - in health, not money. Its also nice to see their faces light up when you go into the room.

I'll be volunteering there for as long as I can!
