  1. I doubt any seniors on this site would have been a part of a 'defense force'. Many have been a member of their country's aggressive forces though.

  2. RAEME, 9 years. Why do you want to know?

  3. I joined US army at age 17 and served for 6 years. I was able to finnish high school in the service and grew up there. I t was not pleasant all the time but it made a man out of me.

  4. 20 years air force -- airborne and procurement!!!

  5. USAF, Vietnam Vet, Radar

  6. HAL 3...DECOMED...1973

  7. I was in the Womens' Army Corps before they became one with the

general army. I worked in a communications center, and had a 'secret'

clearance, which was the only rating I needed for the job I was to have.

I worked decoding tapes that came in on a huge computer. I also helped to feed the monster, with tapes from messages I was handed.

Women weren't allowed at the battlefront, unless you were a nurse.

So the majority stayed in the states and worked mainly desk jobs.

I had the title of being a 'cryptographer'. I used the teletype machine

with a special coding mechanism to type tapes that looked like

ticker tape somewhat. Since I didn't have a 'top secret' security clear-

ance, and only the officer in charge did, I mainly saw 'news'  of who

won which national sports league game, or who in the state had been

killed in Viet Nam. And other obituaries. It was not an exciting job, but

it was necessary. Especially those of us, who worked the nightshift.

  8. I served in the United States Air Force as a Electronics Teacher.

  9. U.S Navy for 20 years, 2 months, 1 day (retired 11/85).  On 5 ships USS Tutuila, USS Gilmore, USS LaSalle, USS Spear and USS Nimitz.  I was stationed in 3 countries, visited about 30 (some more than once), on 6 of the 7 continents (never made it to Australia).  Spent 13 months in Antarctica.

I worked in logistics and still do...with foreign navies.

In fact, I helped turn over two ships Australia bought from the U.S: HMAS Kanimbla and HMAS Manoora (do a google search on them).
