How many of you have a baby boy with...??

A Urinary Tract Infection? how many of you have a baby boy with a UTI? I'm worried about my son because it's not common for boys to have a UTI...could you tell me your experience? thanks

Who said it's not common?  Baby boys, circumcised and uncircumcised, can get UTI's fairly easily, comparatively similar to girls.  Usually the doctor will give you antibiotics.  Go see the doc.    Just keep him comfy and be patient.  Colic is nothing compared to a UTI.

Aw I'm sorry. My son had a UTI when he was 5 months old. It was the first time he was sick and we both thought it was the end of the world. He got over it after about 4 days of being on his medicine. My doctor just told me, and I'm sure he told you too, to give baby lots of water, make sure he takes his medicine like he's supposed to, and let him get lots of sleep. I made sure I didn't take him out in public for a few days because it made him more crabby, and I wanted to make sure he was in the comfort of his own home to get lots of sleep.

My son had a UTI at five months. He was in the hospital for two days. Because of the way the urinary tract is designed in boys, it is much less common for them to get an infection compared with girls.

Has your doctor discussed the possibility that your son has vesicoureteral reflux? It is a condition where urine flows back up toward and sometimes into the kidney area. With baby boys who get a UTI, it is almost always an issue. It is pretty standard to test for this when a baby experiences a UTI. The test is called a VCUG. If your doctor has not already mentioned it, you should ask.

Also, did your doctor do a renal ultrasound? That is also pretty standard when a baby has a UTI. It helps to ensure that there are no anatomical issues and/or scarring.

A UTI in a baby is a bit more complex and significant than a UTI in an adult. I would make sure to ask your doctor a lot of questions when you go back next week.
