  1. I've been around so long I actually remember Curtis Turner,Cotton Owens, Banjo Matthews and when they use to run at Hictory and Wilkesboro, and Richard Petty won his first championship.. Yes, the good ole days when racing was racing, no luxury boxes, no luxury motorhomes, no fancy haulers, no high pay for winning either, no fancy big sponsors, yeah the good ole days.. But we all have to remember its Na$car now and not Nascar..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  2. Boy do I ever remember those days. Thats when racing was racing! Run what you brung! They should have a series that run older cars like that again, call it the senior tour...

  3. Yes, I remember that, it was in the eighties!

They raced alright, but they didn't last long.

I remember going to my first Grand National race at the old fairgrounds track in Nashville. 1/2 mile

That would have been between 75 and 78!

Also remember when gas was 28 cents a gallon!!! Those were the days!

  4. Hmm I've been watching since the mid 80's and I remember the Busch series running V6's then too, also 305ci engines as well. As for the poster, who mentioned the Buick GN, back in 86-87 that was one of the fastest production cars in America. I raced one with my Camaro(which killed Corvettes on a regular basis), and got my a*s whoooped by it.

  5. Sure I can remember.

The first year that I can remember being aware of NASCAR was when I was 6-years old.

As a 6-year old, I naturally gravitated to a driver called "Speedy" Thompson.

Two years later, my Dad took me to a practice at the newly built Charlotte Motor Speedway, which was less than a mile from our house, as the crow flies.

I still have that image of Speedy in his 1960 Ford look like the fastest car on the track.

  6. Not me I'm a young gun. been watchin since 1999 (7yrs old)

  7. I saw a 6 cylinder race at Charlotte. It was around 1985. I don't remember who won. All I remember is wondering why NASCAR allowed those pitiful engines. Some said it was because NASCAR was trying to set an example for the rest of us because of the need to save gas and that in the future the Cup Series (Winston Cup at the time) would also go to the 6 cylinders. The idea horrified me, and if that would have happened I would have probably stop watching NASCAR. When I heard that they went back to V-8s I was very relieved.

  8. Ah the good old days. I also remember a limited edition Buick during those days called the Grand National. It only came in black, had no chrome, and sported a V-6 with dual exhausts and a Hurst shifter. The thing would s**t and git! It was named after the series of course. I remember when the Cup series was called the Grand National division.

  9. A 13 yr old can rlly miss out!

  10. me

  11. I remember when the Cup series used to be the Grand National series. I wonder whetever happened to all the Buick V6's that used to see action in Nascar. I also remember when the Busch Series used to race at Hickory.

  12. I remember. I never like the sound of the sixes but they handled well with the lighter engine.

  13. iwas watching it when the cup was grand nationals

and nationwide was late model sportsman

  14. My friend, I'm so old I f**t dust, can remember when Moby d**k was a minnow, and the Dead Sea was only critical.
