  1. Radar can and does give false images. Because the signal will return from water, you get many false images. If you were to believe all false images are ghost ships, well there must be a whole fleet of them out there.

I have spent nearly fifty years at sea, both as a commercial fishing boat and tugboat master, and have seen 1,000's upon 1,000's of false radar images, both in fog and also in very clear weather.

I have also seen things on radar that I could not explain, but I will leave that to someones imagination, as I am sure they could come up with a ghost ship or UFO for an answer.

Radar is a navigation aid only, and if one was to sail by it alone, well Davy Jones' is waiting for more ships on the seabed.

In my years at sea I have been master of boats for many many years and have sailed enough miles (or knots) to circle this globe quite a few times. I have sailed both deep sea and coastal navigation with all the aids available to old time and modern mariners, but I am yet to set my eyes on a ghost ship, although I have salvaged a few abandoned ones.
