What adult issues are you dealing with and how? Have you ever tried putting them in some sort of group home and it didn't work out. If you haven't are you considering it and why? Last, what do you consider your favorite thing about your aspergers adult child?

  1. Seldom do people with AS need to be put in a group home. Many of the meltdowns that occur can be prevented by keeping the AS person from stressful situations. Further, generally speaking, the more medication a person with AS is on, the more the medication causes anger issues.

  2. Well. I have Aspergers, live on my own at college. I'm 18 years old, but my eye contact is bad and I freak in theatres and places with a lot of people.

Every autistic person has a gift that is extrordinary. I can play any wiind instrument with no instruction at an amazing level. So I'll go with that. I'm a music major in college

  3. My good friend has an asperger's adult that is just now moving out at the age of 23. His high IQ is not reflected in his college grades but he will graduate soon and has been employed throughout school. He is now looking for a higher level job and will be sharing an apartment with his lifelong friend who does not have asperger's so that is a safety net of sorts. He's always been very responsible with money and in general and battles his condition with bravery and tenacity.

My favorite thing about him is his kindness and his unwillingness to every give up. He never uses his conditions to make excuses even when it would be valid to do so. He's a really brave young man.

By the way, there are some support groups in some cities for adults with asperger's. If you do an internet search for your city, that might be a helpful option.
