Me and my husband have been stripping our front room.

The last four lots of paper were still on the wall, how bad is that...It is now back to bare wall for the first time in years...

SO, how many of you out there have been lazy and papered over your existing paper.

Be honest and tell me your bodge up jobs...LOL

  1. we dont use wallpaper in our house. i hate painting as it is so wouldnt go near wallpaper.

  2. Not me. I just PAINT over the existing paper :-)

  3. we bought a house built in 1941 and it had paper over paper 3-4 times and flooring vinyl on top of vinyl 3-4 thick.we did have fun seeing all the patterns we uncovered.

  4. That is very common . As long as paper is sound undeneath.

Stripping back is a good idea , 4 layers is the most I have heard of

  5. I'm a 37 year experienced painter..and refuse to put wallpaper over existing wallpaper..nor will I paint over wallpaper..no matter how well the bond..I do not like people calling me saying I did  a bad job..when I stressed and suggested numerous times before a contract is signed  DO NOT DO THIS..the new bond is only as good as the existing bond..if you lay over it..I cannot guarantee my work..on something that someone lse has done..

  6. Hi... yeah.. i know some poeple are just to lazy to prepare there home for decorating properly... they just wan't to get it done a.s.ap  .. but me i allways strip my walls down to the plaster... then i smooth them with sand paper... then i size them with a weak solution of wall paper paste... when the new paper go's on the result is a smooth proffesional finish...allways start your papering in a corner.. not at a corner.. make a plum line with string and a weight to make sure the first piece of paper is level... this will ensure that the patern on the top of the paper stays level all round the ceiling.. so there you have ... happy wallpapering... bye bye

  7. Well I dont do the wallpapering my big sis does...and lol she actually takes the old paper off ! :P

  8. I have never wallpapered over existing wallpaper for the reason you have mentioned. At some stage either me, or someone else is going to have to remove all those layers and it is a dreadful job, even if you have a steam wallpaper remover. All that scraping and filling the walls, rubbing down. It is lazy as you say, but it is also risky because when you put new, wet wallpaper over old wallpaper the water in the paste of the new paper can soak into the old paper and life it, thereby creating an air bubble which when it is all dry, will still be there. So you pay good money and create a dreadful job. You can never stop it though, some people will always go for what they see is the easy option. Good on you and your husband.

  9. i just moved into my house and there way 6 layers of paper in one room maybe that what they did in the olden days.
