  1. It depends why the person is saying it.  Age is not directly related to a person's maturity or sense of adventure, so in some cases the person's age is irrelevant, but age can be used to predict certain traits and behaviors (for example, a forty-something soccer mom is less likely to wrap her car around a tree than a hormone-fueled teenage boy in a sports car, so her auto insurance will be lower).

On this site, the phrase is often applied to excuse older men who want to date women half their age, or teenagers who want to do whatever they feel like.  So motives are often suspect.

  2. I agree that age has some affects on people but it really is just a number becausethe CHRONOLOGICAL years a person is on earth doesn't mold them as a person.  It's the experiences that person has while on the earth for whatever how many years.  I've seen 50 year olds act just as dumb and immature as a teenager.  Yet I've seen teenagers have it all together better than a 50 year old.

Physically your body will change, but that has nothing to do with your maturity level.  So you may slow down and not be such a party animal at 50 like you were at 20.  But mentally you may still be TRYING to be.  Thus the reason you see 60 year old grandmothers still trying to wear mini-skirts  and talking about "come here big boy, let me do you".

I just don't think we should stereotype or judge peoiple based SOLEY on their age.  All my life my maturity level has been at least 15 years ahead of my chronological age.  I used to get so upset when people would hear my age and make remarks like "oh you just a baby" or "you wet behind the ears".  I have never acted like the typical 20, 30, almost 40 year old.  But people will judge you based on a number.

Now that I am almost 40.  People actually think I am younger.  I am not the typical almost 40 year old.  Yet younger people think that as a number that is soooooooooooooo old and they have their own pre-conceived notions.  I think I'm pretty hip.

  3. I'm 35 and I don't "feel" any different from when I was 20. So to me, yes, it's just a number.

When you are 70, you may look old, you may not be in good physical shape, but if you sitting down talking to someone, you might feel just the same as when you were 35.

  4. I feel you, I don't like people telling me that age is just a number, but when I approach older women and I tell them my age, there quick to judge me. P***k that, I learnt the hard way that people will always say things that don't and can never work for you.

  5. i believe it because if you take care of yourself when your young you'll reap the benefits as you get older. you'll look better, feel better, and have less signs of becoming older.
