  1. for running we only have to run one full suicide thats timed

  2. last year we didn't have tryouts for volleyball, but in practice and open gyms we had 2 run like 2 miles each practice, but our coach used it as a punishment cuz that was all we did at practices(running, instead of practing) so we would suffer durring games and then have punishment 4 not doing so well and then have 2 run but that coach got fired, this year we didn't have 2 run at tryouts

  3. MEEEEE! yea its a pain in the BUTTT!!!!! We have to run a mile under 10 minutes everyday till the end of the tryouts. Then we sprint for like 20 minutes RIGHT AFTER we run the mile. it sucks. It's true that you're not gonna run like around the court all the time for volleyball, but you have to be really really really fast. You might even sprint alot during the games. Running is just a base ground for every sport. No sport can be achieved if you're a bad runner. Everyday at our practices, we have to run at least 10 laps around the gym which equals to 1/2 a mile. You should build your running starting tomorrow OR now. Start running 1 lap for 2 days, 2laps for the next 2 days, 3 laps for the next 4 days, and then 4 laps for the next week, and then so on. You'll be a PRO. Our tryouts are for 3 days and 9am till 3pm. with a 20 minute lunch break. It's h**l

  4. We only run if the stupid freshman coach is there cuz he dont know what to do. lol! some times we run if we do bad. ( like let to many balls drop etc.) but it is important to have good cardio 4 vball. (expecially Middle blockers and setters) but plyometrics and core training is the best!

We have like month long tryouts for like 2 hrs and 30mins every day. normally the coaches dont make cuts cuz only the strong survive!

  5. We had to run  at tryouts.

  6. We run if we are bad, or late. only once or twice around the gym. our practices last for 3 hours.

  7. um me. *raises hand*.

my coach makes us do these lovely things called 'stations' there are exercises set out around the gym like wall sits, line jumps, approaches, jump rope, push ups, sit ups, tuck jumps and blocking. you do each exersise for (his chosen amount of time) and then you have a short time to run all the way around the gym and back to the next station, so on, and so on. w/ no breaks. we also ran a mile before we started tryouts inside last yr. we also have to run sprints if we mess up and alot of our drills involve running.

i guess he does this to weed out the weak players and make them want to quit, but it hurts even the players in the best shape.. grrrrrr. lol

  8. U have to run for volleyball to get leg strength to stay strong in balance and our tryout usually last 2-3 days.

  9. our tryout are 3 days long

1st day-running the mile and other conditioning things like pushups, situps, shuttles etc

2nd and 3rd day are volleyball skills. serving, setting, passing, defense etc.

the reason they do the mile is because even though sprints are more important in volleyball, volleyball players have to be overall athletic ie running the mile.

  10. My coach made us run like 10 laps around the whole gym.

  11. Well that's kind of a silly question, "why would you have to run for volleyball?" Volleyball is not a motion-less sport and it requires hustle on some plays and endurance to dig a ball and then get right back up and slam it down. Anyways, to answer your question, my varsity team doesn't run in the sense of conditioning. That WOULD be silly to do at try-outs. Our coach does have us do some drills like tossing the ball way out of bounds to see our hustle or makes us serve and then run to the other side and serve again and so on.  So no, there really isn't that much running or shouldn't be that much in try-outs besides the running required for volleyball, I think people just worry about the running because they haven't been conditioning so it will be an effort just to do average running.

Our try-outs last a week. Usually 3 or 4 days of watching everyone and taking notes and then 1 or 2 days of discussing with other coaches and deciding who should go on what team and maybe what positions.

  12. Running in volleyball is so imporant because it helps your endurance and muscle tone. You use the same muscles in running as you do in say, jumping for a spike or digging for a ball. Everything correlates with each other. Not only do you have to work out your leg muscles, you also have to use your butt, abs, and arm mucles as well. Running stairs is the best way to tone up what you need for volleyball because it focuses on quad and calf muscles together.

As for tryouts, it really depends what your trying out for. In high school propbably 3-5 days... for college, alot of people are drafted instead of trying out. As for a league, it can range anywhere from a week to two weeks. It just depends.

  13. We run everyday at practice. Usually a mile but along with that we have to do suicides. At try-outs we have to run 1 mile under 8-minutes.

  14. yeah our tryouts last for 3 days!

and we have to run a mile under 8 minutes
