  1. I'd like to add to what Amaryllis wrote: listen to classical  music as much as you can and when possible, follow along with the score.


  2. Just wondering if you are planning to switch BECAUSE of music theory? Hire a teacher/tutor to help you understand music theory because it isn't hard. You're not a composition major, so the amount of theory you need will likely stop around basic harmony. That's just rule-based writing for four voices (SATB) so like math, you just have to practice.
